Classes and assessments
Keep each teaching class in its own space, then create an assessment for each exam or assignment. Every assessment has its own marking criteria and student work. Optional groups help you organize a longer list of classes.
Find your way around
The sidebar lists your classes. Select a class to see its assessments in the main area. On a smaller screen, use the three-line menu button at the top to open or close the sidebar. Select the grAider logo to return to the dashboard from another page.
Your classes and assessments belong to your account. Joining the same institution as another teacher does not make your assessments appear in their dashboard. For institution access and account settings, see Account and access.
If you see No class selected, choose a class from the sidebar. If you have no classes yet, start with Add class.
Add or rename a class
- Select Add class at the top of the sidebar.
- Enter a recognizable name, such as “10A Biology” or “Year 9 English.”
- Select Add class in the small form.
The new class opens, ready for its first assessment. New classes initially sit outside any group.
To rename a class, move your pointer over its sidebar entry and choose the pencil icon, Rename class. Change the name and select Save, or choose Cancel to leave it as it is. Renaming keeps the class's assessments and student work together.
Choose distinct names even if you teach similar classes. Adding the subject or school year makes it easier to select the right destination when preparing a new assessment.
Organize classes into groups
Add group appears in the sidebar once you have at least four classes. Groups can represent school years, subjects, or another arrangement that helps you find your work.
- Select Add group below the class and group list.
- Enter a name, such as “2026/27.” Each of your groups needs a different name.
- Select Add group in the form.
- Drag a class from the sidebar into the group. An empty group shows Drop class here.
For moving classes, use a computer with a mouse or trackpad. A closed group opens when you drag a class over it. Drop the class inside the group's area; the page updates after the move. The class keeps all its assessments.
You can drag a class into a different group, or move it out of groups by dropping it in the area directly below Add class, above the group headings. A class belongs to one group at a time.
Select a group heading to show or hide its classes. To rename a group, move your pointer over the heading, choose Rename group (the pencil icon), enter the new name, and select Save.
To remove a group you no longer need, first move every class out of it. Then choose Delete group (the bin icon beside the heading) and confirm. If the group still contains classes, the app asks you to remove them first. Moving classes out lets you keep their assessments while removing the empty group.
Create an assessment
- Select the intended class in the sidebar and check the class name at the top of the main area.
- Select Add assessment.
- Enter a Title, such as “Algebra midterm — September.”
- Select Add assessment in the form. Choose Cancel if you do not want to create it.
The new assessment opens automatically. Prepare its rubric before uploading student work: select Manage rubric and follow Preparing rubrics. Until criteria are available, the assessment shows Add rubric criteria before uploading student work.
Give the assessment a clear title when creating it so you can distinguish it from other work in the same class.
Open an assessment and continue working
Each assessment appears as a card with its title and submission count. The newest assessments appear first.
Select the title area of a card to expand it. One assessment is expanded at a time; select its title again to collapse it, or select another card to switch. Collapsing a card only hides its details.
In an expanded assessment:
- Manage rubric opens the marking criteria and supporting documents. See Preparing rubrics.
- Upload student work appears once rubric criteria exist. See Uploading student work for files, whole-class scans, and phone photos.
- The submission list shows uploaded work and its progress. See Reviewing grades and feedback for checking and approving results.
- View stats opens the results for that assessment. See Assessment statistics.
If the upload control seems to be missing, check that you have expanded the intended assessment and added its rubric criteria.
Delete an assessment or class
Deletion is permanent. Keep any original files or feedback you still need before confirming.
To delete one assessment, choose Delete assessment (the bin icon on its card) and confirm. This removes that assessment, its rubric and supporting documents, its submissions, and the associated grading results and feedback. The class and its other assessments remain.
To delete a whole class, open it and choose Delete class at the top, or use the bin icon beside its name in the sidebar. Confirm only when you want to remove the class and every assessment, submission, and associated result inside it.
If you simply want to tidy the sidebar, use groups and collapse their headings to keep the work available.
