Reviewing grades and sharing feedback
grAider prepares draft scores and feedback. Your review turns those drafts into decisions you are comfortable using with your students. A useful routine is to check the original work, adjust each criterion, approve the draft, and then prepare a feedback summary.
Open a student's work
Select the class and assessment, then use the eye-shaped Review submission button beside the student's submission. While work is processing, this button is called Open submission; for a submission with an error, it is Inspect submission.
The review page shows the student's identifier at the top, the submitted pages, the rubric feedback, and the total score. On a wide screen, the pages and grading panel sit side by side and can be scrolled separately. On a smaller screen, scroll down from the pages to reach the grades.
You can open a submission before grading finishes. Pages, recognized text, and grades appear as they become available. Not graded yet means there is no result for that criterion yet; it does not mean the student earned zero. Wait until all criteria have results before making your final decision.
Compare the draft with the original work
Read the page images in order and compare them with each criterion's feedback. Use Inspect Recognized Text beneath a page to expand the text grAider read from it. This helps you spot a missed symbol, an incorrectly read word, or an answer that was not recognized correctly.
Recognized text is for inspection only: you cannot edit it on this page. If recognition led to an incorrect grade, correct the score and feedback yourself using the original work as your reference. For a scan that is too unclear to read reliably, prepare a clearer copy and follow Uploading student work.
The page images do not have dedicated zoom or rotation buttons in the review screen. You can use your browser's zoom controls if you need a larger view. If Recognized text for this page is not available yet appears while processing is underway, leave the page open and check again as it updates.
Adjust scores and feedback
Each scored criterion has a feedback box and a score box. Criteria with subcriteria are grouped under a shared heading; adjust the individual subcriteria within that group.
- Read the criterion and its feedback against the student's work.
- Click the feedback box to revise the wording. Be specific about what the student did well and what they should improve.
- Enter the score you want to award. Keep it between zero and the maximum shown beside the box. The number controls move in quarter-point steps.
- Pause briefly after editing so the app can save the change automatically.
- Continue through every criterion and check the total.
There is no separate Save button for criterion edits. The total and percentage update after a score change saves. The colored edge of each criterion reflects its score relative to its maximum; it does not indicate that you have approved it.
Bonus criterion marks extra-credit points. Awarded bonus points count toward the student's score, but the bonus maximum is excluded from the ordinary total possible. For example, 18 ordinary points plus 3 bonus points out of 20 ordinary points gives 21 / 20 (105%).
Check that your changes were kept
The current review screen does not show a visible saved or failed message beside each criterion. After changing a score, check that the total responds. For feedback-only changes, there is no equivalent visible confirmation.
If you are unsure whether an edit saved, copy your revised feedback somewhere safe and note the intended score before reloading. Reopen the submission and check the values. A score above the criterion's maximum cannot save; correct it before trying again. If the app is unresponsive, preserve your corrections, check your connection, and try the edit again.
Avoid leaving the page immediately after typing. Approve draft and the feedback-generation actions try to save pending criterion changes before proceeding.
Approve the draft
When every criterion is graded and you have finished checking the work, choose Approve draft beside the total score. Approval applies to the submission's grades together. The button changes to Approved when successful.
Approval records your review; it does not send feedback to the student. If the button does not change, first check that processing has finished and your scores are valid. Preserve any corrections before reloading to check the submission again.
You can still change scores and criterion feedback after approval. Saving such a change returns the submission to review, and Approve draft becomes available again. Review your change and approve once more when ready.
Prepare a student-friendly feedback summary
Once all grades are ready, Summarize feedback appears at the top of the review page. You can use it before or after approving the grades.
- Finish correcting the criterion feedback and scores.
- Choose Summarize feedback.
- Wait while Preparing feedback summary… is displayed. The first opening creates a summary; later openings restore the saved version.
- Read the draft carefully. It draws on the recognized work, rubric, scores, and criterion feedback, so check that its advice is accurate and appropriate for this student.
- Edit the text directly. Changes save automatically; wait for Saved. beneath the summary after making edits.
Closing with the close button or Escape also attempts to save pending summary edits. If saving fails, the window stays open so you can keep your text. Copy it somewhere safe, check your connection, then edit again or retry closing to attempt another save.
Change the length or refresh the content
Use Shorter or Longer to generate another version at a different length. A button becomes unavailable when that length limit is reached. Your length choice is remembered for later summaries, including other students' submissions.
After changing the underlying scores or criterion feedback, reopen the summary. Update summary appears when a generated summary needs to be brought up to date. Choose it to generate a fresh draft from the current information.
Updating or changing length replaces the summary text. If you have edited the summary yourself, the app asks whether you want to replace your edited version. Copy any wording you want to keep before continuing, and review the new version before sharing it. Editing the summary alone does not change the scores or the individual criterion feedback.
Copy and share
Choose Copy, then paste the summary into your usual student-feedback document or school platform. The app does not show a copy confirmation, so check the pasted result. If nothing pastes, select the summary text and use your browser or keyboard's ordinary copy command.
Sharing remains a separate step that you control. Check the student, wording, and destination before sending it through your usual channel.
If the summary cannot be prepared or loaded, the window displays an explanation and Try again. Use that button to retry. If Summarize feedback is missing, check whether any criterion is still waiting for a grade or the submission needs a grading retry.
Retry grading when needed
For a submission with an error, read the message at the top and choose Retry grading. You can also use the retry icon in the assessment's submission list. The submission goes back into processing and updates as results arrive.
The submission list also allows retries when the rubric or feedback language has changed. For other completed submissions, retry is unavailable; use the score and feedback boxes for your own corrections.
What a retry keeps depends on what changed:
| Situation | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Grading failed partway through | Existing results can be kept while missing results are completed. Review the whole submission after the retry. |
| You changed the feedback language | New AI drafts use the current app language. Teacher-edited and approved criterion results are retained, so these may still need manual translation. |
| You changed a rubric criterion | Existing grades for affected criteria are removed, including teacher-edited or approved results. Unaffected criteria keep their grades. Retry to grade the affected criteria again. |
A parent-criterion change can affect its subcriteria. Changing a subcriterion's points can also affect the other subcriteria in that group because the parent's total changes. Copy important teacher feedback before changing a rubric that has already been used. See Preparing rubrics for guidance.
After a retry, check the scores, approval state, and any saved feedback summary again.
Delete a submission
Use Delete at the top of the review page when a submission is ready for review, approved, or in error. Confirm only after checking the student's identifier and assessment.
Deletion removes the submission and its grading data and cannot be undone. It is unavailable while the submission is actively processing. To correct a score or comment, edit it directly instead.
Use the back arrow to return to the assessment. Once you have reviewed the submissions, Assessment statistics explains how to explore the class's results.
